Today, more than ever, organizations are proactively looking for the skills and experience they seek.\u00a0 Being reactive in your search is not the most effective marketing strategy.\u00a0 I see hundreds of r\u00e9sum\u00e9s each week and coach clients on the necessity of tailoring their r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and message to your target audience.<\/p>\n

Being focused on the position you want and clearly communicating your message to your target audience helps you stand out in a crowd of other qualified candidates.\u00a0 Ensure your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is authentic and has clarity of purpose. \u00a0 Show how you can help your future boss and organization achieve their goals.\u00a0 These simple steps, overlooked by the majority of job seekers, help you “leap off the page.”<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 Write a brief job description of your ideal job.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 Then, just as if you are applying for the position, put your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 and the job description side by side.\u00a0 Highlight the needs and wants of the employer for your ideal job.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 Next, use the highlighter to highlight the keywords and information in your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 that are applicable to the needs and wants of the employer.<\/p>\n

Use this same exercise\u00a0 before you react to a job posting.\u00a0 Look for the unique ways you solve an employer\u2019s problem or address the needs and wants expressed<\/strong>.\u00a0 If your r\u00e9sum\u00e9 is lacking,\u00a0 fix it, or it may never seen by your future boss.<\/p>\n

In the world of online sourcing and ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems), r\u00e9sum\u00e9s that don\u2019t match slip into the darkness and are never seen again.<\/p>\n
