In the U.S., many are making plans for Thanksgiving Day!\u00a0 May your celebration be special and include time for quiet reflection, gratitude for your blessings and simple moments of appreciation for all you have been given.<\/p>\n

With Thanksgiving, the holiday season is officially underway.\u00a0 It is a great time to expand your network and to Accelerate<\/em> Your Search.\u00a0 Holiday and family gatherings provide opportunities to connect and nurture relationships within your network.<\/p>\n

Here are four tips to maximize each gathering during the holiday season:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Give.<\/strong>\u00a0 Be prepared to give something to everyone you meet.\u00a0 A smile, a kind word, a connection or your time — these are wonderful gifts.<\/li>\n
  2. Ask questions and listen<\/strong>.\u00a0 Ask others questions about what they enjoy about the season or what exciting things are happening in their lives.\u00a0 Listen carefully and ask follow-up questions.\u00a0 Avoid offering helpful suggestions\/ideas unless specifically asked.<\/li>\n
  3. Market yourself.<\/strong>\u00a0 But, don\u2019t beg for a job or oversell!\u00a0 Be prepared to answer the question \u201cWhat do you do?\u201d\u00a0 Avoid saying, \u201cI am unemployed\u201d or \u201cI am looking for a job.\u201d\u00a0 Instead share what you do and how you add value.\u00a0 Exchange business cards when appropriate and don\u2019t forget to follow up.<\/li>\n
  4. Manners Matter<\/strong>. Take your manners and a positive attitude to each event. Be sure to thank the event host.\u00a0 Yes — even Aunt Sally — your less than favorite person.\u00a0 Show appreciation for the work and effort put into planning and hosting the event.\u00a0 When appropriate,\u00a0 prepare and deliver simple, unique and fun gifts to the host.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
