{"id":1715,"date":"2013-11-19T04:50:07","date_gmt":"2013-11-19T09:50:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/accelerateyoursearchnow.com\/blog\/?p=1715"},"modified":"2013-11-30T08:15:52","modified_gmt":"2013-11-30T13:15:52","slug":"show-you-gratitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/accelerateyoursearchnow.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/show-you-gratitude\/","title":{"rendered":"Show your gratitude . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"http:\/\/accelerateyoursearchnow.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/show-you-gratitude\/\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"button_count\"  size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><\/div><p><a href=\"http:\/\/accelerateyoursearchnow.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/cindy-letter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1755\" alt=\"cindy letter\" src=\"http:\/\/accelerateyoursearchnow.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/cindy-letter.jpg\" width=\"245\" height=\"206\" \/><\/a>The holiday season is upon us. \u00a0It is a great time of year to connect with your network.<\/p>\n<p>One powerful search tool that is often overlooked is the &#8220;gratitude letter.&#8221; \u00a0This is the perfect time of year to send it to your current network of friends, family and past colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Most people know between 200 &#8211; 250 people. \u00a0Many, if not all, of your contacts have helped you in the past and, if they were aware of your current situation, would be willing to help again. \u00a0Gratitude Letters create powerful, positive energy and, almost instantly, add 200 people to your search team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So, what exactly is a &#8220;gratitude letter?&#8221;<\/strong> \u00a0It is an opportunity to reach out, say why you appreciate the person and to share your current activities. \u00a0It is NOT a letter begging for a job. \u00a0Its purpose is to connect, update and appreciate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is how to get started<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make a list of your contacts or print one out from Outlook or your CRM system.<\/li>\n<li>Next to each name write down one thing you appreciate about that person.<\/li>\n<li>Then verify you have a current mailing address for each contact.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Now you are ready to draft a simple one page letter<\/strong>.\u00a0 Include your gratitude, a specific business\u00a0accomplishment from the last year and what you are doing now. \u00a0You might say something like, &#8220;I am currently looking for my next opportunity as the Director of Marketing in the metro area specifically with ABC, Inc. or ZXX, Inc. \u00a0If you know anyone I should speak with at either organization, please let me know.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If the contact is someone you would like to meet face-to-face, include a P.S. with a suggestion to meet for coffee or lunch. \u00a0For example, &#8220;If you want to grab lunch, my treat, either November 30 or December 3 at the Brown Deli, I&#8217;d love to catch up and find out what is new with you.&#8221; \u00a0You can also share in a P.S. that you have a bit of extra time and if there is a business project you could help with to let you know. \u00a0Make sure to add your mobile number below the P.S.<\/p>\n<p>Print the letters on your personalized letterhead. \u00a0Stuff the envelopes, add a stamp and drop them in the mail. \u00a0 \u00a0Remember, the purpose is to show your appreciation and to update your network.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t forget to include family and friends on your list. \u00a0The people closest to you may know all about your job search and be your biggest supporters. \u00a0As career transitions can be stressful, they are often the people who most need to know you appreciate their support.<\/p>\n<p>Be bold. \u00a0If you are coming from a place of honest appreciation your network will be delighted that you took time to contact them in a personal manner. \u00a0Few people take time to be appreciative and less take to write a letter.\u00a0 Connecting regularly with your network is very powerful.<\/p>\n<p>Post a comment and share your favorite tip for sharing appreciation.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The holiday season is upon us. \u00a0It is a great time of year to connect with your network.
