\"success\"<\/a>Mid-year evaluations are complete. \u00a0Maybe you spent weeks tuned into the gossip about who would get a raise, who’s getting a promotion and who is on the way out the door.<\/p>\n

Then you learned your verdict. \u00a0No promotion and only the standard cost-of-living increase or maybe no increase. \u00a0Or, you had been asking for help and instead got more work. \u00a0You hoped completing more work would, at least, get you promoted. \u00a0It didn’t. \u00a0Now you are frustrated, upset and unsure of what to do.<\/p>\n

Do you really want to do something different? \u00a0If so, here are some practical suggestions to help you move forward<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

\u00a01. Identify the conditions you want to change about your work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What are the true<\/u> conditions and issues you want to change? \u00a0Clearly identify what you want and what you are willing to take action on. \u00a0It is difficult to resolve an unidentified condition or vague matter. \u00a0It is a challenge to request support if others don’t know what you want, what you need or understand\u00a0the help\u00a0you wish to receive.<\/p>\n

2. Identify what you are protecting or avoiding<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Complaints and\/or comments seem to be a way to\u00a0release our internal stress. \u00a0But oftentimes, when the stress is gone so is the desire to change the matter.<\/p>\n

If you have a strong desire to change the situation look deeper. \u00a0If you are just ‘blowing off stream’ or releasing your frustration, find a way to do so that does not cause harm to your reputation and your relationships with other people. \u00a0If you are avoiding something you fear, identify the fear and\u00a0how you want to productively deal with it.<\/p>\n

3. Set up your ongoing and future success.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Identify the actions and valuable resources that will help you gain knowledge about what changes and performance level are needed to secure your desired promotion. \u00a0Start with your conversations\/interactions. \u00a0When someone asks, “Did you get the promotion?” share the news and your intention.<\/p>\n

Here a suggestion: “No, I did not receive the promotion, yet. \u00a0Thank you for asking. \u00a0If you\u2019re interested in my progress, would you like periodic updates, in confidence of course?”<\/p>\n

Not getting the promotion you wanted can be disappointing and frustrating. \u00a0It can also bring up concerns, stress, and doubts. \u00a0Growing to the next level is exciting, fun and fulfilling, but it can also present bumps and challenges along the way. \u00a0Having the support you need to achieve your goals helps smooth the road.<\/p>\n
