Growing and having fulfilling work requires courage. \u00a0Do you have courage?<\/p>\n

Life can be messy. \u00a0When it is messy do you have the courage to call it like it is? \u00a0There are a few people in the world who dislike me (yes, it is true!) because on any given day I have the courage to call it like it is and to ask the questions that need to be asked.<\/p>\n

It is neither mean spirited nor intended to stir painful emotions, yet I know sometimes that is the outcome. \u00a0When emotions are stirred up you might feel\u00a0fearful or vulnerable.<\/p>\n

In my 20’s and 30’s I was unwilling to own my emotions. \u00a0My first reaction was to be defensive. \u00a0Can you relate? \u00a0I wanted to blame someone else for my emotions. \u00a0I often said, “You make me feel <mad, sad, angry> — you fill in the blank. \u00a0The truth is your emotions belong to you alone and it takes courage to own your feelings . . . and your mistakes. \u00a0\u00a0As Bren\u00e9 Brown says \u201cWe cannot selectively numb emotions, when we numb the painful emotions, we also numb the positive emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Having the courage to be who you are and deal with all the messy parts of life often feels uncomfortable. \u00a0Yet, uncovering your courage and allowing it to show will transform your life and your work.<\/p>\n

A few years ago a client shared, “I love being unemployed, but I am afraid of what people\u00a0think of me because I don’t have an 8-to-5 job. \u00a0I shiver thinking about what they would think if they knew I did not want to return to my previous career.” \u00a0\u00a0She viewed her courage to speak her truth as a big weakness.<\/p>\n

In the moment she allowed her courage to show up, the moment she spoke her truth, she stepped forward. \u00a0Her willingness to be courageous allowed her to explore a new way to do the work she loved.<\/p>\n

Only 20% of people look forward to going to work on Monday morning. \u00a0Are you one of them?<\/p>\n
